mango meditation

the toll of the bell

resonating through my brain

drilling my body into the ground

a cumbersome book clung to my head

and with the next clang

the book opened revealing

a house balanced on my skull

the drilling stopped

my breath slowed

I became aware of my fingers

the peal fading into dusk

the house stood before me

beside it a mango tree

grew strong and tall

with heavy fruit pulling

the branches down low

Namaste, namaste

sincerely senseless sonnet

sizzling silver summer sandal shines splendidly

scorching sun stifles sweltering seated sticky sunbathers

seriously seeking sustaining serene shade

strange soul- searching sultry soldiers step solidly

stage soloists slide sideways singing silly songs

spectators see slowly setting sun sparkle superbly

suspicious strangers scrupulously stroll sluggishly

suddenly separating sadly

sidewalks shorten, shadows stretch

stars sprinkle shadowy sky

Who Are You?

making grimy mud pies in the dirt

shaping the dark, cool muck

into round compact disks

scoring the top into wedges

with a bent twig

decorating the pies with flowers

totally engrossed in the task

only the breeze as a playmate

until a caterpillar called her name

breaking her reverie

and sending her screaming

across the lawn

looking for her mother

who laughed until tears streamed

down her cheeks

and the young girl kicked her pies

breaking them in pieces

so they could return to the dirt

from which they came.

bit of heaven

I think the words to my previous post, Turf, are lost forever. Maybe not, they may reappear on some sleepless night when my soul is in a dark place. But for now they are gone...

And I think I need to expand this blog to include other words....not just poetry because I don't write poetry often enough (and usually only when I'm sad and depressed) but I use words, almost, every day. On Cafe Selavy's blog, a few weeks ago, we agreed upon the univeral truth that children and bubbles are definitely included on the list of beautiful things in the world, a constant even, no matter where you go. I would like to add water to that list too. This afternoon I spent a few pleasant hours watching handicapped children enjoying water play. Their disabilities forgotten in the laughter. Even my own emotional disabilities forgotten for those few blessed moments. I feel calm and peaceful now. A school, in the last few hours before summer, can become a restless, hectic place but outside today in the grass we all found a bit of heaven.

turf

there were supposed to be words with this but they got lost, somewhere in between and betwixt...work, Mother's Day, sushi, ghee, books on cd, Walmart, garbage, sex, drugs, violence (just joking about the sex part) ... I hope I find them again but you never know...I'm losing a lot of things lately...

safe

I will ease your pain I will cure your hurt,
now I lay me down to sleep
but your magic I will keep
safe and protected
from eyes and ears
of those who don't understand

who don't see what I see
all I ask in return is a piece of redemption
sucked
from your fingertips
which
seems

to
be

the

only
place

I'm
safe

fall down weeping
in quiet halls of filth
and I will hold your head in my lapand whisper you
into sleep folded close to my heart which
seems
to
be

the
only
place

you
are

safe.
Tomorrow will be the same

as today and yesterday

but still I know
what
you need to survive
trust me to bring you
into
sweet reposeand peace

light is faster than sound

are we the vessel or the light,
the consciousness or the body?
let the light shine through me
let me be the light
as I make this journey
to the sun
midst spiders and fish
let me mold and shape
the implements
that will lead me into midnight

late nite quickenings

two men walking down the street

each one following the other

dressed in chartreuse suits and porkpie hats

They’ve been walking for days

a man in drag sits on the bench and watches

while an angel plays the fiddle on a balcony overhead

children run past wearing only their smiles

a woman shouts at no one

girls ride in blue buses, with a snake hissing overhead

No one seems to notice
the butcher sells mincemeat pies

while smoke pours out from office windows
People stand in the street discussing last year’s news

The angel throws her fiddle to the street

And the hands on the clock spin past the hours

while those that wait keep moving.
